Join us at the winery Sunday afternoon March 16th, 2008 to remember in song the bravery of St. Urho in saving the grapes of Finland.
Legend tells us that as a young man St. Urho drove away the grasshoppers from Finland’s wild grape vineyards using the incantation:
◦ “Heinäsirkka, heinäsirkka, mene täältä hiiteen!”
◦ “Grasshopper, grasshopper, go from hence to heck!”
Urho is pronounced like “Errrrh-hoe” with a long trill of the R to represent his strength. Check out St. Urho’s web site
http://www.sainturho.com/index.htmMusic will be provided by “Toivo’s Finn Band”. At 3:00 pm Elmer Mattila will lead the assembled group in responsive readings and songs with a program entitled “The Story of St. Urho Savumäki”.
The winery will be open from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Please wear clothing with the saint’s colors Royal Purple and Nile Green. Finnish snacks will be provided.
Our blends of cold climate grape varieties carry the St. Urho label named for the patron saint of the Finnish vineyard industry. The 2007 versions of St. Urho White and Rosé wines will be released at the party. St. Urho Red and our other wines will also be available for tasting and purchase.
